Installing Wordpress

Before you start, please note...

The instructions that follow are ONLY for dedicated servers or vps servers that were configured after 1 April 2009.

This application may work on servers or vps's installed before this date but no guarantee is given.

If you want to be sure that this application will run correctly on your server or vps please contact and ask for your server or vps to be upgraded to the latest PHP Environment. There may be a charge for carrying out this process.

The following instructions are designed for Wordpress V2.7.1

  1. Download the files from the Wordpress web site

    The web site can be found at to you PC

    Please download the "Full Package" version if installing this for the first time.
  2. Unzip the files.

    Unzip the files to a location on your PC
  3. Upload the files to the directory on your web site

    A video tutorial is available on how to create an FTP account. A default FTP account should exist for your domain

    Video Tutorials are available for various FTP Clients with instructions on how to upload files via FTP.
  4. Create a MySQL Database and User

  5. Open up the web site for the Wordpress installation

    You should see a screen similar to the one below


    Click on the "Create a Configuration File" button

  6. Start the installation


    Click on the "Let's go" button to continue the installation

  7. Enter the database details

    Enter the details of the database you created earlier


    When the details are completed, click on the "Submit" button

  8. Run the install programme

    If everything is OK, the WordPress application should now be ready to install.

    Click on the "Run the Install" button

  9. Additional Information

    Add some additional information regarding your Wordpress application

    Once the fields are complete, click on the "Install Wordpress" button

  10. WordPress is installed

    Take a note of the admin login details (you can change them later). You will need these details later to log into the Admin section.

    Click on the "Log In" button to enter the Administrator area

  11. Enter your Admin Area Log In details

    Enter you Admin Area Log In details in the appropriate boxes

    Click on the "Log In" button

  12. You are now in the Administration Area for WordPress


    You have successfully installed the WordPress Application
